Spring 10×10: reflection

Spring 10×10: reflection

One thing’s for sure: for Canada, it definitely wasn’t spring!

It was comforting to see other fellow Canadians adding boots or turtlenecks to their 10×10 capsules when the weather suddenly dropped to sub-zero while we were wishfully curating a capsule of short sleeves.

I have to say, the spring 10×10 was more of a challenge than the winter round. I’ve always loved layering, so fall and winter fashion tends to come easily to me. This challenge was a step to helping me get creative with a different (kind of) climate!

First: here’s a log of the items I chose.

1. Matter Prints sideswept dhoti pants
2. AGOLDE Riley hi Rise straight jeans
3. Citizens of Humanity (modified from jeans) pencil skirt
4. Wool sweater (secondhand)
5. Black blazer (old)
6. Kotn men’s white tee
7. Denim boxy tank (old)
8. Flowy black cami (old)
9. Le Lis Collection patterned longsleeve
10. Matisse pointy-toe loafers

I took a few learnings from the winter challenge and incorporated it into this one. Mainly: bring in some comfortable, versatile pieces so you can lounge on the weekends! It’s easier to stick to your capsule when you can lie on the couch watching Netflix in the same pants you’ll wear when you go out to do errands!

Next lesson is: you may think you have it all figured out, but halfway through a totally new idea will come to you and you’ll override one outfit for another. I find this super exciting. New options coming up where you thought there were none? Makes me want to continue with the slow, intentional downsizing journey even more.

Next lesson: never feel like your wardrobe isn’t good enough. We’re all in a different place in shopping ethical, or trying out a capsule wardrobe. The challenge is meant to stretch our creativity, and, be challenging! If you can’t afford to have an entire ethical wardrobe, it’s an opportunity use what you have! We should never just buy things because we want all of it to be perfect. That’s how clothes end up as waste. Make it a slow journey! I’ve become ok with not needing more, or new things just because my closet has some items I bought at Walmart once upon a time.

Last thing I realized:

no matter how hard I try to use all the pieces in my wardrobe, I always find myself reaching for the same kinds of garments.

Take note of those clues. It’s the best way to really know what you’ll wear, and what you should invest in.

I’m still feeling the happy post-10×10 buzz, so I’m going to do a second round! I always seem to find it fun to do them twice in a row. Gives me a sense of a full seasonal capsule!

How did you like the spring 10×10? If you participated, comment below with your thoughts!
